About the Story
After a foiled abduction attempt, Ellery Mayne realizes that an entire security detail has been shadowing her every move, protecting her from danger she didn’t know she was in. Working to uncover the secrets behind her elusive watchers, she carefully conducts her own surveillance, testing the limits of professionals who think she is clueless about them. Though they are hard to spot, their loyalty and care for her is not. When she finds a way to declare her feelings for one of her guards, he is blindsided with joy but fearful that his team will lose its lucrative security contract because of his relationship with the mark they’ve all come to love.
As secrets to the identity and intentions of the team’s mysterious employer begin to unravel, Ellery’s deeply buried affections resurface and battle with the love and loyalty she feels for her security team and her new love. Set in my home town of Louisville, Kentucky, USA, this story is a young adult romance about Ellery Mayne, a shy loner who finds herself ‘In The Spotlight.’ The series contains three installments: In The Spotlight, In The Smoke, and In The Shadow, each told from a different character’s viewpoint.

If you don’t want to know anything else other than that this is a fun and exciting story with a relatable heroine and two handsome but mysterious leading men, then stop reading here and head straight for the Read Excerpts section. The heroine of Mayne Attraction, Ellery Mayne, is convinced that she doesn’t fit in with other young people and probably never will. When a foiled abduction attempt leads to her discovery that she’s the focus of a secret surveillance and security force, she begins to see herself in a different light and starts to make gradual changes to become the person she’s always wanted to be. In fact, all three of the main characters in the series experience profound insights about love, family and friendship as they make their way through the story.
Book One, “In The Spotlight” is told from Ellery Mayne’s perspective. She’s candid about her foibles and peeves, her insecurities and her motivations as she quietly works to break out of her shell and solve the mystery behind her team of guardian angels, one of whom she finds especially ‘angelic’. At her core, she’s a patient and kind person and this plays out again and again in her dealings with her over-protective mother, her security detail and her two love interests. As the story climaxes, she makes decisions that reflect unusual maturity and foresight for a teenager.
Book Two, “In The Smoke,” presents the story from Grayson Gregory’s point of view. Pushed by his father to pursue Dr. Mayne’s very young granddaughter, he hesitates and unwittingly breaks her heart, though all he meant to do was give her time to grow up and himself time to work out the inner conflict he feels about the situation. When the multi-million dollar company he’s poised to inherit is threatened with a hostile takeover, it becomes clear that his interest in Ellery runs deeper than purely romantic attraction, and he battles with himself and his father to balance the line between love, livelihood, family and fortune.
Book Three, “In The Shadow,” concludes the series with a narrative from Ash Ryan, a security specialist enjoying the best paying, easiest job of his career. His life turns bitterly painful, though, when he falls desperately in love with Ellery Mayne—the entrancing subject of his secret surveillance assignment, who must never know of his existence. His anguish turns to joy when she unexpectedly reaches out to him and they embark on a secret romance. But then another suitor with a previous claim on her affections appears and Ash must choose between loyalty to his colleagues (and their dependence on an extremely lucrative security contract) and fighting for the girl of his dreams–though all indications point to his rival as also being his mysterious employer!
