Bill Bryson Signs His First Kindle

Author, world traveler and humorist Bill Bryson was joined by upwards of 300 admirers on October 14, 2010 at the Chicago Public Library to hear about his latest book, ‘At Home–A Short History of Private Life’.  He shared some of his favorite passages from various works and explained a little about his recent release.

Here is the link to Chicago NPR affiliate’s recording of the event.  It’s well worth a listen: http://www.wbez.org/story/arts-amp-life/brysons-house-home-where-history

Bill Bryson Signed My Kindle!

I was absolutely thrilled to meet him and the look on his face when I explained what I wanted with my Kindle was priceless.   He had never seen his book on a Kindle and took time to examine the look of it in this electronic format.  With a kind and conscientious expression he said, “Wow, this is fantastic, but I don’t want to deface it.”  I explained that the addition of his signature to my eReader’s cover would make it exponentially more valuable to me and presented him with a silver sharpie to do the honors.  He graciously obliged and now I have the most awesome and unique Kindle possible:  the first one ever signed by Bill Bryson!
